For providing basic Education to poorest of the poor children in a remote village
Background History
In 2000, while visiting “Nakati Raghunathpur the village of one of DISCC staff member near Varanasi district (approximately 30km from Varanasi), Dr TULSI, DISCC president and his collaborators found that, the village has many poor children both boys and girls ranging from 4 years to 10 years, who were roaming without any formal schooling. Dr Tulsi, as a curiosity asked the community leader about it He explained the poor economic state of the famillies and the poor backward status of the villagers unable to send their children to any School. The closer was much too far for them. After two or three visits, he requested DISCC to start a small school for the children of that village . After a while a small school was established in a land under the trees with just a small hut to provide health and hygiene skills and basic education. At the beginning, they were 30 boys and girls, whose parents were highly motivated to send their child for two hours school programme. They were one teacher and one assistant with sound of academic background and coming from the same community. Teacher were also trained for a Refresher Course by Dr Deepika for teaching village children at “Deva Centre” Varanasi.
At that time Muni Lalh received as a gift a small piece of land and just after In 2001 and surprising everybody decided to offer it, to build the premises of the school. Thank’s to Dortjee and donators four school rooms were built giving then a real school for at least 100 children.
The village is really grateful to him for this worship.
Now the school has its own building, a small office and a toilet and one bathroom. At present, there are 135 children in the school and it is running for five hours per day.
Dr. Ambedkar was famous for writing the constitution of India. He was a social activist who devoted himself for the poorest of the poor and oppressed communities of Indian society. Keeping his ideas and philosophy. This school was named as “Ambedkar Integrated School”.
